Elvis performed at the Mosque Theater, Richmond, Virginia at 2:30 and 8:30 p.m. Here Elvis began a broken 3 week tour headlining over well known country acts like Justin Tubb, the Louvin Brothers and the Carter Sisters.

Elvis heard of the deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper in an airplane crash and Tom Diskin wired condolences to the families on Elvis' behalf.
