There was a press conference at the Saddle and Sirloin Club at the Stockyards Inn in Chicago. Elvis performed at the International Amphitheater, Chicago. Elvis wore the $2,500 gold-leaf suit, that the Colonel had had made up by Nudie Cohen. There was a crowd of 12,000.

Elvis, part of the Second Armored Division, arrived at Fort Hood at 4:00 p.m. and was declared off-limits to the press from the next day on.

Still in the RCA studio Elvis was persuaded to try a rock-song like "Burning Love".

Barbra Streisand attended the midnight show and met backstage with Elvis afterward. She offered him the costarring role in her upcoming remake of "A Star Is Born". Elvis showed enormous enthusiasm for the project, which was dampened by the Colonel over the next few days.
