Today, on 8 September in Elvis History

There was a opening of a new shopping center in Memphis. In the advertisement of the opening was the announcement: "by the newest Memphis hit in the recording business Elvis Presley". This took place in front of Katz Drug Store the following night between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m.

Elvis performed at the City Auditorium, Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Elvis and Anita Wood had breakfast at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and after that they visited Radio Recorders to listen to the songs Elvis had been recording over the last few days. Later they watched 4 movies at the theaters around town, while talking about screening Jailhouse Rock the next day.

Elvis bought a custom-made Stutz Blackhawk. His first was badly damaged in an accident earlier that year and would not be repaired for almost 3 years.

Elvis and Linda attended a Tom Jones performance and Elvis even appeared on stage at Caesar's Place.

Elvis performed at the Convention Center, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
